confused Audi TT Roadster - Opinions?

Hey folks, can I get your valued input and opinions on the Audi TT Roadster please?

A couple of years ago I was out of work and both the wife and I were forced to sell our cars and downgrade, she cried as the Mini Cooper she owned was sold

We bought a SportKa cheaply from a family member which has been reliable but no where near the quality feel of the Mini.

Anyways, things have really picked up work wise and it turns out that the Audi TT Convertible is, and I quote, her "dream car!"

The budget is really only up to £4k, so I'm really only looking at W,X,Y reg cars with decent history and a recent cambelt as I'm told its a big job!

    Anyway, this one sold today:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1708368304...84.m1423.l2649

Now thats surely a huge bargain

    So, any thoughts?

    Good car / bad car?

I'm told that the 225bhp is the one to go for, and of course with leather and the BOSE audio - but what about reliability?

She only does about 4000 miles a year so I'm not too worried about MPG especially as the Ka is dire on fuel anyways!

    Whatdya think??

    Thanks Chris

My ex has a W reg 225 bhp TT never had any real issues with it , doing an oil and oil filter change was a bit of a nightmare though as there is no room to do anything in the engine bay.
Absolute blast to drive ,ragging it around country lanes in somerset i miss the car but not the ex .
    Driving vauxhall,s for 30 + years

Be careful of the gearbox.A guy at work had one and it developed a gearbox fault, not mechanical, electrical.
His had the paddles on the steering wheel and the computer that controls it had issues.
You can get them on an exchange basis but it will still cost you about a grand.
Check out the Audi blogs,it's a common fault that Audi deny.

I've heard of problems with the screen in the dash (the one that shows the mileage etc). The cable is so thin.

Have a look at some of the VW forums, but I would think any car that age you'd be looking at cam belt, suspension parts (bushes etc), clutch maybe.

    Nice car though.

They're all 1.8s at that age, aren't they? If so, the ignition coils were a common failure IIRC.

Thanks Reb, they are under £100 a set looking online, so not too bad - the gearbox issue is way more scary - no flappy paddles for me then!

My bro had the 189bhp it was ok had a quick blast in it and for a car over 10yr old it was very very tight but then he had the clutch new head and some other bits done to it, luckily he knows someone that works for Audi/VW so got it cheaper! But still very expensive.

I would if I had the cash buy one as a weekend toy.
