    Default Airbox Replacement.

    Chaps.....

I have a K&N panel filter with the airbox mod, this is nice and does the job well.
However I have to say I would like the induction noise, and maybe some improvement in high end throttle response....

I'm seriously looking at the BMC Filters "CDA" as a direct replacement for the whole airbox with a cold air feed right behind the lower front grille.

I don't want an open the engine bay 57i, as I know this will just be pants, apart from the nice sound, and really I do like the idea of a nice induction noise, and really couldn't give a willies how loud that is, but I don't want a load of hot air to get into the engine...

    Has anyone done this?
Have you any tips before I go and spend 1.6 million pounds on this just to find it doesn't fit....

Only way to get more induction noise really is to have an open Airfilter, the CDA may be louder than the current air box but the 57i will be louder still imo

I was after a bit of induction noise as I like to give it a bit of welly when the suns out!

I drilled my airbox on the side nearest the wing (approx 8 holes) which gave a nice roar over 3500RPM. With it being away from the engine it didn't suck any hot air in and still drove fine, no flat spots etc.

I've now gone back to a non drilled box though as I wanted it nice and quiet on the motorway, but as you want the noise then it might be ok for you!

Just a thought - you could try it as its free!

I used a Green induction cone on my last car, the howl was worth 20bhp alone , never noticed any issue with heat soak.

Meant to say as well, with the holes nearest the wing, nobody can see you've drilled it so won't think you're chavvy!

I had a BMC CDA on my Golf VR6 and it was great... good noise, not that you could hear much through the raspy burble of the engine but it was cracking compared to other cones I've used in the past.

    Hi dude,

I was considering a MIJ Cold feed sport filter on ebay recently. Basically replaces the airbox with a cone "sport" type filter, yet still has the maf sensor in the typical place and feeds from the same cold source as the standard airbox.

    Here: -

Has pics of it fitted to a vectra-ish engine
