    Default Ticket legal advice

    Hi

I got a parking ticket back in march for the following contravention

85 - Parked in a permit bay without clearly displaying a valid permit

    The circumstances

I was visiting our local council offices for a meeting and i parked in there car park opposite the buillding in spaces that had clearly been marked visitor parking. I also went to the reception and asked was it okay to park in the visitor bays and she said yes.

I left after an hour and found a ticket on my window, so appealed the same day and about a week later had a reply rejecting my appeal, and was advised to wait for the notice to owner.

Its arrived and now im stuck with what i can do, as i dont agree that ive done anything wrong.

Can anybody advise?, it gives me two options pay or make representations.

    Cheers

As above, you need some form of written confirmation for your attendance at the local authority offices
Once you have this make representation (initially send photocopy of this letter)
However you will most likely have to attend in person
It's great keeping all these other people in jobs all for the sake of having done something correctly

Did you sign a visitor book at council office perhaps to get a visitor pass perhaps?

Who controlls the parking? if it's a Private Parking Company then you will never win an appeal as they are only interested in your money, that said, if it was issued by a PPC then have a look on Money Saving Expert and or Pepipoo forums before you even think about paying, a ticket from a PPC is an invoice, not a fine, they can only persue the money through the small claims court but they very, very rarely do this because they tend to loose, they may send you a few badly written threatening letters but they give up in the end. If however, the ticket was issued by a genuine traffic warden (doubtfull) then you do need to act, however given your circumstances it seems very odd that they turned down your appeal.

I had a council issued ticket overturned in Chester so it can be done.
As Steve said, sign up to Pepipoo, they are really good at this and they very helpful.
I got a ticket for unloading on DYLs, had it cancelled.
First thing to do also, is to ask for a copy of the Traffic Regulation Order for that location, do it via e-mail, if they treat it as a FOI request then you win straight away.
But sign up to the Pepipoo site.

I would doubt there will be
From what I can ascertain, it is a council car park with specific parking places for visitors

Once the OP has responded it will then be known if a FOI is appropriate
