could this be a fault with units or a loose connection .....ie my fault when installing
or could it be cancellators acting up
just drivers side flicering off and on every 10 seconds or so
thanks in advance

Possibly a duff cancellor, but the easiest way to sort it is just get someone with Tech 2 to enable Xenons present in the UEC and they won't flicker any more
Doing that cons the car into thinking the factory Xenons are installed and it switches off the bulb check on the headlight bulbs so they stop strobing. Done it on mine.

Non-canbus compatible ballasts will flicker. What kit did you use?
sorry not clear i ve had the hids fitted for about 18 months just swapped them into new lights no probs till today
this morning all the drivers side lights refused to work (indicator, sidelight, dip and high beam),so its either a fuse or the main plug on the headlight that is loose. not sure if there is a separate fuse for each side ?
The error cancellors won't prevent the OBD from scanning the bulbs to check if they're not blown, so the check signal will still make them blink.
But the remedy is very simple : just activate the xenon lights options with an Op-Com or have you garage do it with their Tech2, and you'll be done.
As a bonus, you won't even need error cancellers anymore.
