    Default Everyone should read this!

    Hello all,

I have just left a reply in another thread but I think the subject is worth having it's own thread.

Tyre fitters have a tendancy to be rather haphazard (present company excluded), tyre fitting machines are adjustable therefore can and should be adjusted to suit each individual car.

For instance if the machine has just been used to fit tyres to an old Fiesta with 4" wide rims, it is then used to fit tyres to a car with 8" rims clearly there is going to be a LOT of pressure on the wider rim thus causing serious damage.

Some people may say I have never had a problem but believe me it is widespread, my own son had all 4 of his wheels damaged with zero compensation.

Also a friend, knowing there was a possibility, deliberately went to Renault and payed £60 to have 2 tyres replaced, he also went to great lengths to point out he did not want any damage, well they did just that damaged both wheels, given it was Renault and he had made the point both wheels were replaced and he was allowed to keep the old ones.

This is simply by way of information and not intended to to offend, I just think it's best people are aware of the possibility.

Watchout for the dreaded airgun on the locknut, one guy did mine up so tight it sheared the pattern head, only got it off by squashing the key and airgunning it off.

No Compensation again, and why do they put the damaging weights on the rim when they have a box of sticky ones.

I don,t think some of the tyre fitter,s are too bothered about our car wheels, the way some of them have changed tyers on my car,s is appaling, they knock them about and take little pride in what they do, I know that all tyre fitter,s are not the same, I hope that when I need to change my tyre,s I can find a good tyre fitter, as yet I have not had a set of tyer,s fitted when at least one of the wheels was not damaged.

Just had four new tyres fitted to mine, and I always make sure I watch them being fitted. If they won't let you watch - walk away. The two guys who fitted mine were very careful and made sure everything was OK with me. Whether they do that for everyone - who knows?

They also only charged me £20 cash to fit all four.

You have to remember tyre fitters generally don't earn a lot of cash so why should they care, if they are scraping a living!

I agree, but it is no excuss not to look after your wheels, I dare say that most of us would give the fitter a nice tip if he did not damage the wheels, I know I would.

I did the same set - of 4 Avon ZZ3s 225/45-17 for £280, brand new. Try www.camskill.co.uk, price included delivery and with full fitting and balancing for £20 cost me £75 a corner.
