Default A road trip and the start of my next mod.

I took a small (160 mile round trip) road trip this morning to collect some XPII 18" rims c/w Avon ZZ3 rubber.

The journey was mainly motorways and A roads (including the Woodhead Pass - a great stretch of road) and the car returned 40 mpg - I was very pleased .

The rims have suffered some kerbing during their life and so I will have them refurbed but the rubber is 6 - 7mm deep all over and at the mileage I drive should last a couple of years easily.

A couple of pics below (it's amazing what you can get in the back of a Vec).

The next trip (hopefully this week if I can get the time off work) will be to my local tyre place to have rubber and rim separated and then to a refurb shop with the rims.

I just wanna get it sorted now and get them on the car.....

If things go to plan I will be looking for a new home for my SRi 17" rims soon!

I made some more progress today

I took the wheels to my local tyre place and had the tyres removed from the rims.

A few pics below showing progress and some close-ups of the damage on the rims.

I then whisked the rims down to City Powder Coaters and asked them to do a refurb, recoating the rims in as close a match to standard vxl alloy silver as possible.

The guys at CPC seem confident they can do a top job on the rims and by the look of some of the work they had in the unit I am hopeful of a top repair too.

Time will tell, CPC need about four days so hopefully I can collect the refurbed rims at the weekend.

    CPC details: http://www.citypowdercoating.co.uk/

    Fingers crossed.......

Yep your right but I preferred to use my known and trusted tyre place for this part of the job, horses for courses etc etc.

Today I returned to City Powder Coaters in Birmingham to collect the refurbed rims.

Due to road works at the Spaghetti Junction and the fact that a lorry shed it's load of scrap metal onto the M6 at junction 10 the journey was a nightmare...........

But to say my expectations have been surpassed is an under statement, the rims are as close to immaculate as I could of hoped for.

CPC have transformed them and done a fantastic job for the princely sum of £20 a rim......

Tomorrow I will get the rubber put back on them and get the wheels onto the car, then I need to find some new centre caps...

A few pics of the refurbed rims below:
