    Default My new 314's

Had my 314mm brake upgrade fitted last week and they're nicely bedded in now and performing well! Although a bit squeaky some times. We also had the inside track rod ends replaced as there was a bit of give in them. The car was tracked and now the wheels are rubbing on full lock.

Our mechanic who fitted them has suggested spacers, has anyone else had this trouble? Or is anyone else running spacers?

    Cheers

Bigger calipers won't make the car rub on full lock
I'd say whoever changed the steering geometry hasn't done it properly

What size wheels do you have, and are they Vauxhall or aftermarket? The squeakiness is probably either a lack of copper grease on the pads, or the disk shiel rubbing on the bigger disks - bend the shield back with a screwdriver.

We've had trouble with the geometry since we bought the car due to the movement in the steering arm. The steering wheel has never been straight, now the new arms are on and it's been tracked, the wheel is perfectly straight.

Wheels are 19" snowflakes, the squeaking comes and goes.

Sounds to me like it was supplied to the original dealership with 17" wheels, and then 19" wheels were fitted (possibly at customer request)
The suspension was then not changed and not followed up

Check the part numbers of the parts supplied so far, veirfy these are for 19" wheels and not 17" wheels
Also the front drop links will have a slightly different shape, so check these
The normal links are plain and straight, when 19" wheels are fitted a different drop link is required, and is quite easy to identify

I'm interested in the different drop links for 19 inch wheels... Do you have a picture or part number.... I've gone from 17's to 19's....

Thanks for your input guys. The squeaking is only now and again under braking so that might go.

I wasn't aware there were different parts to set the car up for 19's so that might be worth looking into. It's only rubbing on the driver side, full lock to the right. The inner edge of the tyre is rubbing against the back wall of the arch liner.

Is it possible for the tracking to be incorrect? Biasing the steering slightly more to the right than the left?

Could be what you really need is 4 wheel alignment , to make sure it's all correct

That's not the issue, I am wanting to confirm with the OP that the front suspension has been corrected on fitting the 19" wheels
Using the front drop links helps to identify and confirm this
Other parts also need to be replaced, so if the front drop links have not been replaced it is highly likely the others have not (and are not so easy to identify)

Equally, if parts are ordered from the VRN or VIN, then wrong parts (for 17" wheels) may be fitted in error
Furthermore, the error may not come to light as the new parts will be identical to the removed parts
