    Default CDTi 8v Whine

    Hi,

I am hoping to buy my second Vectra very soon and had a look at a 1.9CDti 8V 2005 which was very nice. It's done 97k, FSH, and has had the timing belt changed recently.

One thing I noticed though was a kind of whine when I gave it throttle. It happens when parked and whilst driving.
When driving, the more throttle you give, the whine becomes more prominent.

The guy said it was the sound of the Turbo.... I haven't driven a CDTi before but am a little sceptical that it's the Turbo sound to be honest.

Does anyone know what this could be or is it normal??

Your advice would be much appreciated, thanks

    Hmmm....

    Gutted.. the car is lovely.

Is it easy/cheap to get the timing belt or cam belt checked out/loosened?

It sounds quite like this actually:
    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95559

Turbo on it's way out perhaps?? I'll see if I can knock him down a few hundred quid to cover for it.

Is there a sure fire way to tell if the Turbo is on it's way out??

Where can I find the turbo/timing belt/cam belt and Alternator on a 1.9CDTi 120? A pic would be very helpful if at all possible. I'd love to know where the sound is coming from.

    Thanks for all the help.

It sounds very much like this: Vauxhall Astra 1.9 CDTI Turbo Whine - YouTube

Does it sound like a siren type noise when the turbo comes on boost??.. If so the bearings are shot in the turbo.

I have this at the moment and am changing my Turbo next week...
