Question Is this a low oil level light?

Just completed a 280 mile round trip to Ipswich and back for some 18" alloys.

Car was fine for the first 50 odd miles with cruise control set to 75, I then slowed down to 50mph for going through the roadworks on the M25 and this light come on, strange thing is it never showed on the GID, only on the clocks display.

I then pulled onto the hard shoulder and the oil level was fine, so started her up and set off again and was fine till I got there.

Picked up the wheels and done the first 40 odd miles again with no problems, again cruise control set to 75, I then slowed back down again coming through the road works and low and behold.... the light come back on again just at the end of them.

So turned her off and back on again and she was fine for the 50 odd miles back home, I've also done about 12 miles around town since with speeds no faster than 40 and it hasn't come on.

What would cause this? Oil passed it's best? car neeeds a service? don't say dredded oil pump on it's way out.

The car is a 2.2 DTi, preface with 98k on the clocks

    cheers lads.

My oil level was fine too mark, right at the top of the dipstick.

Think I'll give it a service and see what it's like.

What oil do people recommend for a 2.2 DTI? used to buy Vx 5/30 fully synthetic for my old V6

Vauxhall recommend that all Vec-C engines use 5w/30 fully synth long life oil.

When i used to get it serviced at Vx they used 10/40 semi.

I have continued to use VX 10/40 semi and change my oil every 5k.

Never had a problem using this oil, and its cheaper than 5w/30 fully syth.

Providing the oil is within the MIN and MAX when the engine is warm, then clearly it is just the sensor that is at fault
Check the oil daily until it is replaced

100K miles / 9 years is good going for such a sensor, as they typically last about 5 years
