Mine did this a few days after I acquired it
Reported it to dealership (so that it was logged for warranty purposes), but it never happened again
I put it down to having the car on a ramp and uneven surface

The power steering level sensor is known for being over sensitive, so if it doesn't happen again in the next few weeks there is no issue

If you want to check the power steering level, then you may as well topup at the same time (as it is a nightmare to access)
Therefore purchase a small bottle from your local dealership
As you have a 3.2, you need to remove the offside bumper and pretty much detach it all the way along the front (and underside) as well
Alternatively, remove the offside bumper and then remove the offside front lamp assembly
You can then use a torch to check the level
To topup use a small pipe, rather than try from the bottle itself

All I can find in owners handbook is, Consult a workshop. I have a feeling the reservoir is located behind the front drivers side wheel arch cover. No doubt someone will know for sure.
    Beaten to it.
Forget that it is on offside.

I'm finding it rather concerning that so many people are suddenly reporting this...
Looks like the unit consumes from the max to the min in about 6 years

Equally, the lifespan is about the same, which is quite typical for an electrical motor
However if it is just the level then it should return back to life on restarting

If it is the unit itself, then once it has switched off, that is the end of it and it needs replacing
However a failed level sensor can also cause this, but that's a different issue and solution

It happened to me last year. After few NOK/OK's the power steering died completely and power steering pump needed to be replaced. Hope it is not the case with your car. Maybe you can consult the service, maybe is something small now and bigger future troubles can be easily avoided by small repair.

The power steering pump is a non-service unit on the Vectra C
Hence the warning message and lack of power
Equally, when it fails that is the end of it
It can be repaired, but you will be without it for about 10 working days; normal practice is to exchange for a refurbished unit
