    Thumbs down Mercedes hire car

My vectra gsi is due in the bodyshop Tuesday.
I was due to get a hire car dropped off today.
A Mercedes a class diesel automatic 60 plate was dropped off.
My gsi returns 23-27 around town.
You would expect this car to do 50mpg.
I drove to Manchester from Stoke it only did 35mpg!!!
    Also its crap to drive.
Automatics are good in big engines not in small cars.
Makes me happy with my usual mpg.
Wonder wot an a class costs new?

    "Mercedes, it's A different Class"
I will never forget when a salesman told me that...
Yeah a different class of YNW!

Never mind not touch an A class, I wouldn't even touch the key...
On the other hand, the SLK is a beast

    It's an A180 so 1.8 maybe?
It's more suited to picking kids up from school.
My dad used to own a two door 2.7 ltr Mercedes diesel that was decent.

A180 CDI is actually a 108bhp 2.0. Its badged as a A180 as its a detuned version of the A200 CDI, just seen the most basic A180 CDI is 18.5k brand new!

I was looking forward to driving it.
It's got sport and comfort mode.
Put your foot down it revs loudly and goes Nowhere!
Its got ac Bluetooth decent stereo tho.
    Just nasty to drive.

I find them very twitchy when on the motorway but i think thats due to me driving a big heavy car not a little tall one lol. Althought the the new model with the bluemotion engine is loads more responsive than the 58reg one. I drove it from the north east to the isle of wight and it was a cracking car. The new one is doing 61mpg with less than 800miles on the clock.

    I quite like Mercedes...

But I *much* prefer a CLK 4.2 litre to an A class, It feels better somehow...
