Default Test drove a car today but issues

Went to test drive a car today for the wife. It was a 207 1.6hdi and looked very smart.

BUT.... when it was idling I pointed out to the salesman that it was smoking and he said it would most likely be because its been stood a week. I wasn't sure about this as my vectra doesn't smoke if its been stood.

Anyway, kind of hoped for the best and took it for a drive. it felt really tight and something I would definately of bought. However, looking in the rear view mirror I noticed that the smoke was to do with something more than just being stood, it was white \ blue and lots of it.

I left without purchasing but the chap has just called to tell me it's the fuel filter or EGR vavle which is faulty and would be replaced if I wanted the car.

I'm not 100% but I'm sure it's not the fuel filter at fault, I think it's something more serious.

    Anyone have any ideas??

If you're not 100% sure just walk away. Plenty more out there.

It may well be something and nothing, or it could turn out to be an absolute nightmare. Why take a chance?

the 1.6 hdi engine in peugoets are widley used in fords , citroens and many others . the turbos are known for blowing if only used around town because they get coked up easily and it seizes . the firm i work for get asked daily for turbos for these engines (always low milage cars ) and the manufacturers refuse to warranty them or put us off buying them because they know it will go again . in my opinion go for a 1.4 hdi far more reliable .

    cheers for the info mate

After what happened today and reading up on forums etc I think the 1.4hdi or 1.4 petrol is the way to go, seem to have a lot less issues. It won't be doing many miles anyway so a 1.6 diesel was probably never going to be the best buy for her.
