Default two noisy problems in one!

    hi fellas.
just had my 04 2.2 dti auto mot'd (had to have a new ns coilspring).
now, i have 2 problems, yes they was there before the mot.
when i drive over a slightly uneven road a metalic rattling can be heard from somewhere underneath, i am led to believe its a loose heatsheild?

and secondly, when i am approaching a stop at relatively low speeds and apply the brakes a 'click/very mild clonk' can be heard and felt under the brake pedal.
    maybe a pad retaining clip?

i thank you lot in advance as i have always had an excellent response on here!

    cheers.

    o/c.

Had heat shield come loose on mine and got some big washers and sorted that job. I have also got a mild clunk the same as yours. Just waiting for the chance to have a look. I believe it to be the pad retainer clip.

Mine makes a clunk from the passenger side only and has been doing it for the past couple of weeks, about a year ago I fitted all new discs and pads ( Mintex) and last week fitted uprated drop links thinking it was this that was at fault.
The clunk only happens when braking going forwards and not in reverse, so I dont think its the pads moving as I have checked them and the look snug in the holder and the spring clip is in the correct place, it does not do it every time I brake but if I have turned a corner and the brake later it clunks again, I have checked the spring and its not broken and there is no noise when turning the steering from lock to lock, the only thing I could think it might be is the ball joint on the bottom control arm, could this be the fault, do they go after 70K
