Default 2.0 Turbo a bit 'flat'

Hmm this is a tricky one to describe. My 2.0 Turbo seems to feel a bit like its underperforming. I know 175bhp isn't exactly supercar power in a family car but it seems to be to be a bit sluggish compared to my older 120bhp diesel.

Its the first turbo (petrol - I've had quote a few turbodiesels) car I've had so I'm not used to the performance but it doesn't feel to me a huge amount faster than my other previous 1.8 140bhp vec - especially the 0-40 or so speeds.Pulling away from junctions sometimes it feels as quick as my old 1.8. Once you're in 3rd it seems to pull well and feel a bit happier, but when you're cruising at 70 in 6th on the motorway and want to overtake it sometimes seems to take a while to pick up - obviously this is where diesels are performing their best.

I've put a pipercross filter in, new plugs and fuel filter is going in this weekend. Its running fairly smoothly (apart from a wobbly idle speed and the hesitation when its cold). I've checked hoses for leaks and all seems ok and the car seems to averaging 32mpg which seems to be about right.

Its difficult to put my finger on it - but I feel something is lacking! I don't have the money for a remap as yet but is there anything I can check to make sure its performing its best? I thought about some injector cleaner etc but I always thought they were a bit like snake oil!

Or is it just the nature of the engine/gearing on this car?

put it on a rolling road that way you can see if its under powered and you will have a graph so you can compare to others that have had it done
finally drove the brother in laws 2.0t the other day and they dont feel under powered only managed 1st and 2nd due to speed humps but they feel quick
they feel even quicker when your a passenger
i would be checking the turbo or hoses etc
it should pull good in all the gears

Ive checked the hoses and all seem ok. I can hear the turbo whistle at around 1800 to 2500 revs. Its just pulling away from lights i feel every supermini and white van is well away from me!

I think you'll find that the cars a bit slow to respond in 1st n 2nd tbh..at least mine is and I have a bsr remap. Mind you she then picks up her skirts pdq when(and ''if'') 3rds reached at any traffic light gp.

I would recommend super unleaded at the least..and Shell's finest, despite the cost makes a difference.

BTW the car should pull smoooooth n steady after that...plenty of low down stomp n still puts a BIG grin on my face after 4 years..

The remaps accentuate the difference in power between 1st and 2nd gears, and the higher gears, they're designed to do that to protect the drivetrain. It shouldn't be so noticeable in a standard car though.

    Running BSR stage 3

Ive always used Tesco 99 Momentum fuel.. Few months back i reverted to unleaded due to rising costs in the stuff.

MISTAKE!! Slow as hell!!!! Took at least 4 tank fulls to get it back up to performance levels id had before

Make the switch to fuel others suggested.. and that i use.. sure you will see a change. But.. don't expect it in one tank full.. stick with it a bit

I've always ran mine on Tesco momentum from day one and its certainly not a slow car, a good service and some decent petrol should sort it out, maby try driving another 2.0 turbo see if it feels the same as yours, feel free to come give mine a good kicking im only down the road lol
