    Angry Horrible Dealership mechanics

I got my car in the other day to get the thermostat changed. all good till today, just round the corner from home, and bamp smoke from the front, and coolant light is on. get home and checked only to find the header tank top pipe was blown off and all the pressurised air blast the collant everywhere. the metal clip holding the rubber hose onto the header tank was not where it whould be, it was further down the pipe, as if it was left there by purpose for me to go back to dealership. I asked my friends uncle who works for vauxhall and he admits that they do this to get customers back for more work. Just because i used the service club card, i end up taking an arrow to the knee. Well angry you know.

Sounds more like someone made a mistake and forgot to secure the hose, no conspiracy im afraid but it still should have been checked.

just sounds like a mistake and no proper QC's in place to stop this sort of thing happening

find a local trusted mechanic, I've used VX a few times when mine was new, I don't think they offer the same level of service and attention.

Dealers and most large shops always put the apprentices on servicing and other small jobs like this. I always either do my own or else take it to a 1-man shop that I trust - that way you know who will be working on your car.

Is there actually a need to remove the pipe from the bottom of the header tank to do the thermostat? Certainly wasn't when I did mine.

I assume they drained the full system although why the header tank pipe I do not know...

What enging was the change done on...?

I have done two of these now and it's an easy job even for a money like me.... No hammers involved in the work either!
