Easier? DJing definitely. I've DJ'd hundreds of wedding discos (you can spot me in a couple of these old pics http://www.highlandfox.com/disco.html) but wouldn't want to do the wedding photography, way too much responsibility if you screw something up lol

Used to love doing weddings when I ran a disco business with a friend of mine, great fun and because they're all out to have a good time, you can pretty much play whatever you want and they're happy (within reason).

Couple more of one of our busier gigs (the one in the link above was quite a small do).

The red speaker casing certainly looks different lol!

You might be able to answer the other part of my argument then Ian.... My mate says you can dj now with just a laptop running some dj software and hooked up to an amp. Now let's say all your music is on the laptop does that mean you wouldn't need one of those controller/mixing things?

Potentially yes, you could just use a laptop hooked up to an amp. Our setup was slightly more complex than that. If you look at the pics in the link in my previous post you'll notice two laptops, each of those had an external hard drive under the table and was tapped into the main mixer (a Pioneer DJM500, still got it sitting here funnily enough) along with a pair of pioneer CDJ500 CD decks and a seperate input for an ipod so that people at the disco could plug in and play their stuff if they wanted to (we checked it first naturally lol). We used software called Raduga on each of the laptops which is a professional studio DJ software used in radio stations and such like but there are several different ones around (PC DJ is popular).

The mixer output to an RCA splitter that ran to usually two amps, sometimes up to four depending what we were doing and each amp powered a pair of speakers.

So basically, if I understand correctly, it is possible to run from laptop to an amp using only the software to mix, but this would be tricky due to having to do things with the mouse only. However, you could still use the computer software to mix but can have a controller/mixer separate to make adjustments to the software?

    And yes

Raduga is the software we used to use but it's more designed for cueing up songs, searching through songs and setting up playlists and wait lists. We used two seperate laptops with it on both for mixing between if we wanted to although most of the actual mixing done was done on the CD decks
