    Default Oil light staying on

    Hi guys,

Just looking for some advice. My oil light has being acting up a bit over the last few weeks, most times it goes off right after start up but then other times it will stay on for about 20-30 seconds after start up and yesterday it stayed on until i turned the engine off and back on.

I have checked the oil level and this is fine. I have seen on some threads that some have had issue with the camshaft solenoids on the VVT engine Z18XER when cold starting. Do you think this might be causing my issue ?

    Thanks

Only a suggestion but it could be the pressure switch -sensor would have thought if there was no pressure at the camshaft then there would be some tell tale noises coming from the engine,i had an issue with mine but it rattled for 1 or 2 seconds on first start up removed the filters from the solenoids and its been fine ever since, like i said i,m no expert but i'm sure someone with a better idea will be along soon to confirm or point you in the right direction

Thats the oil thats already in the car and it was only changed about 2 months ago. I do get the rattle on start up so might be worth my while taking the solenoid out and having a look, is it quite easy to do ?

You need to determine if the the switch is faulty or not. When it stayed on for 30 seconds, did the engine sound like a bag of spanners?

Oil pressure or oil level light ?

If it's pressure, then at high mileage I'd start wondering about the pump.

Taking the solenoids off - did mine last week after I found a stored code for No1 bank. Filters were pretty mucky, so cleaned them and refitted. Not a difficult job, in my opinion, as long as you have some Torx sockets Not sure why that'd cause a light though - clatter yes

It does Rattle for a few seconds after start up normally but when the light stays on it rattles a bit longer. Im sure its the oil pressure light that stays on.
