Default Standard of driving these days

I drove from Norwich to Croyde last sat and yesterday I drove from Croyde to Chedder Gorge.

I'm amazed at the standard of driving that you see on our roads. It seems wing mirrors are not needed anymore as you just pull out regardless and indicators!! Well its a waste of calories moving ones hands an inch to actually use them and a lot easier to get the person behind you to whack his brakes on. (On a side note I was driving on the M5 when a police car swapped lanes no indication so I beeped him, he pulled over and I went past and looked at him and he held his hand up to say sorry. I would get them to resit their test every week )

Then there are the lane hoggers who refuse to move from the middle lane whilst doing 60mph.
And to top it off idiots who refuse to use lights when its raining heavy or misty.

Makes me think we should ALL resit our test every 10 years. I know a lot of people will say no way but I'm sure it would make our roads a lot safer then fitting speed cameras every where because the level and standard of driving is appalling these days.

    What do you guys think?

All the while you're getting annoyed at other road users are you keeping your eye on the road?

I did not say I was getting annoyed I was only ascertaining the current standard of driving on our roads. Lets face it these days you need eyes up your backside to keep watch of all the people who seem oblivious of other users.

Another gripe what is it with people when you pull over on a country lane wave them through and they drive past look at you and can't even say thanks? Do we live in a society where its cost too much time to show a little courtesy?

The whole point of the endorsement scheme is to bring home to such drivers about their standard of driving
However that doesn't address the issue, unless they are ordered to resit their test

Placing a mandatory 10 year retest may be beneficial as this would increase employment, but this places a burden of cost on the licence holder
Some people may overlook this and simply continue to drive; of the opinion they passed their test and so why should they sit a new test

Speed cameras are much cheaper option, plus they generate income
Speeding is just one issue and it does not catch all forms of poor standard of driving, some of which you have identified above

If you think things are bad now, wait a few years and compare...

A mandatory refresher course wouldn't go a miss round here. Or some sort of direct punishment scheme, anybody caught driving badly is forced to drive a Prius with a big pink sticker saying "I Love Men"

    That might help

My point is why waste your energies, don't get me wrong this is only something I'm realising myself.
