It can be confussing as the safety feature on the Vec is to use the sidelights as brake lights in the event of a failure of the bulbs take a picture and also have a slow hard look at the brake lights

To be pedantic, the brake lights use the lower tail lights when an upper tail/brake light bulb fails.

Is the brake light a single or double one?

    They are all single
When braking the module increases the current, making the bulb brighter

Using cheap bulbs can result in low current, the module then returns this as a bulb failure

When I receive such a warning, I reverse up to a shop window or the likes during darkness, then view the rear of the car to see which bulb is at fault
I had a relative do this during daylight and they couldn't see which bulb had failed, so I had to get them to press the brake pedal and I quickly identified the brake bulb that had failed

Increasing the current won't make them brighter. It's a voltage increase.

    All bulbs are 12V
The current varies, which in turn increases the power output
Hence why on tail it is 5W (just under 0.5A) and on braking it increases to 21W (just under 2.0A)
