    Default f35 gearbox oil

just had a bad thought today but might be nothing to worry about

done my csc about 5 weeks ago
so had to drain and remove box
oil looked red and thin like atf

on rebuild just bought 3 litres from vx
was supplied oil for my reg number and vin
it was red and in litre bottles and didnt have any viscosity ratings branded on it. just a list of cars it was for
it took just under 2 litres

so today i gave my mate the other litre bottle for his corsa
i read the bottle more clearly and it stated the cars and gearboxes it was for.
they were all af prefixes ( auto boxes i believe )
so it was basically atf i was given

now have googled oil for my car at 75w/90 synth gear oil
is this just the same viscosities as the oil i was supplied?
was i supplied the wrong oil?

getting worried now and wanting to change my oil again .

The oil that Vauxhall put in their gearboxes looks very much like power steering fluid - which is almost identical to automatic transmission fluid. I suggest leaving that out and putting in a decent fully synthetic oil such as Castrol SMX-S, which you can get from Halfords.

I asked our local motor factors and they looked up the reg and came up with a semi synthetic 75w/90 not red!

When I drained mine it was red. I put the Castrol Smx-s in. I belive a lot of members on here have put the "SMX-S" in their gearbox, where appropriate.
