    Default SRi Spec Part 2

Soon to purchase an early 2004 2.2 SRi, parkers guide state the following are on this model, is this the case please? : "SRi gains a driver computer, 17" alloy wheels, sports suspension, leather steering wheel and a leather-trimmed gearknob, stainless steel exhaust pipe, lowered chassis and a chrome sill plate". IF the car does actually have as it says, a stainless steel exhaust pipe i presume its just the back box only?

If its an early 2004 then it will be the same as mine 53 plate. You should have a few extra things that the later SRi's lost like auto dim mirror, and rear cup holders in the seat front and as above rain sensitive wipers. Mines a 2.2 as well and I was also able to fit the T/C switch, about £8 I think.

    Default SRi spec

Thanks for your reply Rushy. You mention having a TC switch fitted for 8 quid, would have thought that would have been a standard feature? The model i'm purchasing IS on a '53 plate, reg 2004. Providing everything goes to plan will be getting it sometime in the next week. Is the air con good on the vectra? Got it on my focus and its ok but thats about it if you know what i mean? Also is the 2.2 (petrol) fairly nippy in your opinion? I've seen some comments saying its well...err...ok...but only that. Obviously i'm not expecting it to go like s**t of a shovel (pardon the expression) but would hope with it being a 2.2 it would be reasonably quick. I know what the rest of you are thinking, "didn't you take it for a test drive?". Well yes i did but town was hectic and i didn't really get a proper chance to give it a bit of welly! Cheers

early 2004 is a good age to get as they started to lose toys and make them optional extra's on later models. 2.2 is reasonably quick you just need to know how to drive it as it s*** off a shovel it isnt but if you get the revs right it can shift.

later 2.2 directs are quicker but they were late 04 plates (you can tell by the twin tailpipes)

Over all good spec of cars, nice to drive and theres more and more stuff becoming avaliable for them too.

    It goes like stink mate!
When you consider that a Scooby 2.0 STI couldn't shake me the other day you may well get my drift

It's a very underrated performer, and is probably as much as a victim of the popularity of diesels, brought on by huge fuel costs, and the ever growing need for power with economy,as the Dreamcast console was a victim of poor advertising against the PS2!!
However with a panel filter good fuel, and quality oil i bring home 32mpg extra urban with 38.7mpg on the motor way.
Get it and enjoy it!! I'm sure that i'll be backed up with my claims by fellow owners on the site.
Any questions don't hesitate to get in touch....

In reply to your T/C question, T/C is fitted as standard, but you dont get the option to turn it off in the SRi's. All you have to do is buy the switch and plug it in. Its not an exact science as it works with some and not with others, but it does seem to work with cars around out age. A/C wise, its not as good as my old 306 but it works fine.

Well the 2.2 should certainly go better than your 1.6 Focus.
I had a 2.2 Direct for 2 years and its a very capable, reasonbly economical motor. Went especially well with Optimax/V-power in it.
I did try the older non Direct 2.2 unit before I had mine and from what I can remember, the Direct has a little more zip to the performance so if you can push a little more cash wise, and you really want a petrol, go for the Direct. The downside, as people have said is you lose the toys with later models, so pros and cons.....
With regards to the air con, both Vecs I had were supurb. When we had 35 odd deg C this summer, I had to turn my air con down as it still got too cold!

But if its performance with economy you are interested in the smart money goes on a 1.9 150 diesel . The performance and economy from the 1.9 is superb, a great all rounder (0-60 quicker than the old 2.2 and 45-50mpg). When I had my 2.2 Direct and my mate had a 1.9 150 which really kicked my a55, no problem.
(But if you want real performance go for the 3.0 V6 CDTi ).
Have you tried other engines mate?
