Default Bet your fed up with this question

Evening All, Joined the forum about 12months ago when was looking at getting a vec 3.2 gsi but bought a bmw 325 coupe instead which now regret.
Anyways im fed up of filling up with petrol and that so looking at getting a vec sri 1.9 150 or 120. I am just wanting to know what they are like on diesel and most importanly are they reliable. I had a vectra c sri 1.8 as courtesy car for 6months and loved it just after something decent sized to fit golf clubs in and then be big enough to take a pram and that for year or two down the line. looking at spending about £3000-£3500 will that get me a decent one?

    Thanks

£3500 will get you a fairly late plate 1.8 vvti with a few toys, depends what spec you want. The diesels do have a premium over the petrols so for your budget it will be higher on the miles. What mileage are you doing?

I've got the 1.8 petrol getting 420miles urban and just under 600 miles on motorways from a full tank (about £76 now). Plenty power when you need it too...

Paid £4700 for a 57 plate Sri with satnav and cruise control...

Last year I got a 56 cdti sri nav for 3k off my mates miss he's a trader. I paid 3k it had done 120k he had done the dmf. had serviced strait away as you do and was told it needs a new inlet. So had it done at trade price and blanked my egr and took my tb out. Then summer came and no ac and another £300 for a new ac condencer. But I'm glad I went for the cdti 150 its fast economic and tunable

I bought a 1.8VVTi Design (Sat Nav) with 43K miles for £4K in December, they are bound to be cheaper now.
Average low 40's on a run, total average in 4000 miles 34.5 mpg according to the BC

I used to have the 1.9 120's as company cars, they used to get 57+ mpg on a run (70 mph on cruise) and around 35-40 aroud town. Best I saw was 768 miles from a tank.
The 120 seems to suffer less issues than the 150 and are quite tunable, seen claims of 150 - 160 bhp.

    I've had petrol 2.2i direct
    300mpg round town
    400mpg long runs
    horrendously unreliable

    I've had 2 1.9 CDTI 150s
650mpg on a roads and towns
    850+mpg on long runs
only cost £100 for top shocker mount bearings

Can get a good diesel for £3500ish

but as Angel1368 says, unless your on and over 15k miles per year, get a petrol.
