Professional Job???

Well today i set about installing my angel eye headlight units. First Job was to get the new units dried out as the previous owner reported condensation. 4 days on the radiator should do it then!
Second job was to get the standard vauxhall rubber caps to fit tightly over the locating fin. The caps are slightly too big. A couple or rounds of insulating tape later around the fin, they're snug as a bug.
Next was to fit a filament bulb on the led/ sidelight circuit to avoid getting the error message. I bought a couple of bulb holders from the auto spares shop, spliced into the cable, then tucked it out of the way.
Last job before installation was to transfer the HIDs that came with them (cheers Nidgeboy) into the full beams. I do lots of countryside night driving so i thought i'd give it a go. I bought two 20mm stuffing glands from the electrical wholesalers and fitted them into the hard plastic covers. Voila! A nice neat job

Have you checked the "start up" time for the bulbs?

I am not sure if the Veccy brings in the main beam as well as the dipped or the main only?

If it is main only you may have a lag in going to main beam and then bulbs being bright enough to see with.

It might not be a safe conversion if you are potentially going to have no or little light for any period of time?

All good mate, it 'adds' the hi beam to the dipped. I think it's only really old cars that do that.

Thats what I had thought, but mentioned it anyway, I havent driven my car much in the dark since I bought it and even then it has been on well lit roads.

It would still be interesting to know the lag in them lighting up, especially if you need to flash someone?

It's not too bad TBH, they also have an initial bright flash when you first turn them on. I'm going to see how it goes, might not stick with them but i thought i'd try it seen as they were nice and accessible on the kitchen table

HIDs don't like being continually switched on and off (eg, when being used as high beams). It's rumoured to shorten the life of the HID bulbs and / or ballasts.

Check they have the rubber snorkell bits on them. Mine don't I have problems in the winter with condensation.

Yeah, i agree. It's because each time they strike from cold, a tiny bit of the annode/ cathode are destroyed, making them ever so slightly further away from eachother, making it harder to strike, etc, etc. They're effectively a free set anyway and when i'm driving at 3am through the country, there's not much need to turn them off they're on for longer than they would be if i were popping to the shops.

I saw them. They're on. Also the original fitment of the HIDs weren't water/ air tight. They are now.
