    confused Emissions Control

    Morning,

I've had a quick look through the forum for other faults like this. Not really answering my question as my symptoms are slightly different.

Driving home last night and the emissions control light came on and the car (1.9 CDTI SRI (150)) went into reduced performance mode (or whatever it's called). I pulled over and let the car cool down and restarted. The light stayed on but the car was back to normal performance.

The light remained on last night and this morning but has now gone off.

Before I take it into a garage I was hoping for some thoughts on possible problems and if this is something I should class as urgent.

    Any feedback is appreciated.

    Regards,

    JT

Hi Jrt, The first thing you would do is have the vehicle 'code read', because if the light has been on then there's a chance of a stored fault code, which may help in the area the fault could be (but not always). The truth is it could be anything, most faults on your type of system will put the computer in 'Limp Home Mode'. Kev

    Thanks Kev.

I'll have a look in the How2 section and get the error code.
First time i've had a car go 'limp' on me. Didn't have a clue what was going on!

Is your car auto/manual, estate/hatch or saloon...?

The emissions light is usually brought on by a failing or disconnected egr valve... you could try cleaning this first rather than replacing it.

    Manual saloon.

I'll take the EGR off tonight and give it a scrub. No doubt caked in blackness!

    Thanks for the advice.
