    Default 'Over run' on engine

    Hi

Had my SRI 1.8 for a few weeks now and generally quite happy with it. Economy and performance are OK and comfy, good drive and lots of gadgets.

I am still finding it hard to get smooth gear changes especially starting off and from 1st to 2nd.

When I change up from 1st to 2nd the engine seems to carry on revving after I have released the 'loudest' pedal especially if I change up at around 2500 revs. If I change up with higher revs say 3500 or 4000 it seems ok.

Is this normal? Am I a **** driver and just not used to the engine and gear box yet? Is there anything I should be doing? Any quick tests?

I have been driving diesels for the past 3 years so I know I sometimes change up a bit early ( still does feel right going over 4000 revs!!) but there defo seems something a little up somewhere.

    Any advice gratefully received!

    Thanks

    Paul

Vx reduced the amount of oil recommended for the gearbox i believe on some models which rectified this problem which is well known of, not sure which engine/ gearboxes this was applicable to though.

Thanks that sounds like it could be the problem.

The car was 'serviced' before i bought it and new oil put in. I'll try and get my regular garage to have a look and see what they say

    Thanks

My 2.2 direct does the same too. The ECU seems to hold the revs high and not let them drop back down when changing from 1st to 2nd gear even with my foot off the gas. I've had the car about 7 weeks now and i'm still getting used to it.

    my 3.2 does it
think its to stop bucaroo effect in 1st and second if you keep it in that gear and come off the accelerator

also the very short biting point on these ( mine anyway)
still makes me a bit jumpy on the gear changes after i have been driving my van for a few days

Supposedly a feature to make gear changing smoother for those people who cannot judge changes properly?

Also heard it was to burn any additional fuel saving the cat?

What ever it is, its blooming annoying!! I have driven for over 25 years, I can judge engine revs, gear changes and dont need a black box to do it for me.

    Any fixes? Tech 2 etc??

Thanks for the feedback - at least I know it ain't just me!!

It is ****** annoying though, is a remap of the ECU the only fix for it then?
