Default Mig Welding - Advice please

Hi, the rear hanger on the back box of my 1.9 (120) estate has snapped - its a bog standard system which I believe is mild steel both the hanger and box itself. On ramps I will have plenty of access and intend mig welding a new hanger back onto the box rather than dismantling the system and disturbing the joint.
Is this wise - I appreciate how delicate the electrics are on the Vectra and I will obviously disconnect both battery terminals - is there anything else I should do to prevent damage.
    Thanks in anticipation

If it's the original system the box will be stainless with a mild steel hanger

Thanks for that - a lot of the hanger is still in place welded onto box - I'll get an angle grinder on it to see if it is substantial enough to weld the new hanger onto it - might even be able to arc weld it if enough there. I wouldn't usually mess about but the box is in such good condition its a shame to replace it just because of the broken hanger - any ideas about actually using the welder on the car.

Hi John, just been underneath and your right the box is stainless the hanger itself is mild steel - and funny enough its hollow tubing thats rusted through. There is quite a wide seam around the middle of the box at the rear so alternatively I could make a U shaped bracket to go over the seam and then put a couple of bolts through the bracket and seam, welding the hanger to it before fitting, which would solve the welding on the car issue - bit of messing about but I do like a challenge
