2004 vectra

hi all im looking and buying this vectra 2004 cdti club 16v. not had a vectra before so my question is:

1. what am i looking out for (problems)
2. what to steer clear of.
3. priced at £2500
4. is it worth it ( deal or no-deal)

One of the main faults on these is the dual mass flywheel. Any noises or problems with changing gear is a tell tale sign. As this is the lower end model, I thought it might be a bit cheaper, so knock him down on price before you do the deal...

You want to be haggling him down to about £1750 for that spec and year, i bought my 55 reg facelift vectra cdti 150hp design in mint condition for only £2460 last month, so would expect a lower spec pre facelift model to be considerably less

i got my self a 2005 54 1.8 energy petrol mint con fsh 1 prv owner 96k for a bargin price of £900 last july

if you google car glass price that is what all dealerships uses and if you want to save pennys aswell be picky average a price for mint to ok with dints scratches etc and knock them down on price

As already mentioned, check for rattling sound from gearbox area when pressing clutch in-out, probably flywheel. (£850ish to replace)

Look under engine cover and check for swirl valve linkage, any signs of grease around the black collars means it is on its way and will be losing boost pressure (£650ish to replace)

On test drive check for any lag on acceleration and juddering when coming to a stop, could indicate EGR problem. (£150ish to replace)

Check the aircon works, if not get them to recharge as the condensor is prone to holing due to location at front of radiator grill (250ish to replace)

I have quoted approximate garage costs to repair items based on quotes I have received in the past. if you can do the repairs yourself then in order parts cost approx £450, £300, £80, £125 obviously depending on what you choose to replace.

All from experience of what I didnt know to check when I bought mine.
