2.2Direct - Timing chain

Hi there.

Started to notice the 'dreaded rattle' and seen as though my Vectra has done 94k, think its time to change the chain, especially as I'm off to France in the Summer!

Couple of questions if anyone could help me please.....

- I have purchased the timing chain kit, but I've now heard about a balance chain - does this need doing as well?

- Is there anyone on here, or anyone that you would reccommend could fit it for me? I would rather pay a member than getting stung by Vauxhall!

There someone called benny from brum. Well recomended from everyone. Mine went x mas eve and cost me a grand and that was cheap. 6 bent valves and new chains.... On z22se.co.uk. Seems to be the man , dont know if he is on this site or not.. Hope that helps.
I can give you a blokes number from derby if you want.? He did mine for me and made a good job...

Just noticed it seems to be mis-firing a bit as well, will change the spark plugs to see if that sorts it!

Hope you got a new Gen GM chain mate, the older kits still use the old style tensioner which is where the faults lie. The New Kits come with the NET tensioner.

Sorry Rushy - can you shed any light on the balance chain? What does that do and should I change that while I'm at it??

The balancer chain runs the balancer shafts, its why the 2.2/2.0T runs so smooth. This very very rarely goes wrong and doesn't need to be worried about unless your on high miles.

It also runs the water pump, and at 94k I would be looking to do that as well, if you don't know it's history, Benny did my chains a couple of years ago, well worth a PM he is on here.

water pumps are a common fault on here and they seize up
causing damage
