    Default Battery light.

    Just wondering if anyone knows why my battery light comes on and stays on sometimes.The car is running fine and starts first time, everything electrical working ok.57 plate 55k.

    Battery lights are normally a sign of a failing charging system.... If you have access to a multimeter, check the voltage across the battery with it running, should read around 14v

    Thanks Tony, thought a alternator would last more than 55k,have to have a trip to clencoe autos in that case.

    defo the alternator going.My first one went at 38k then again at 42k number three is still going strong now on 49k so they can go before 55k good luck with it

    Assuming your profile is correct, that's good going for a 2007MY
    The typical life for any component can be up to 3 years and so 5 years is acceptable
    Mileage doesn't really come into it for alternators, the usual cause of failure at low mileage is just that, short trips with lots of engine starting over time
    An alternator can last much longer on long trips with fewer engine starts over time

    I can typically get 180K miles / 7 years before the alternator gives up the ghost

    Yes that is certainly the alternator. Sort it quickly as suddenly your power steering goes. Are the lights in the central consol still working? They go to. You are running on battery, get a bosch alt fitted, the originals fitted are rubbish.

    mines coming on, staying on for 10mins, then going off if i stop the car and re-start, all other electrics ok, battery showing really good voltage, but i think i have a problem with my egr, dont think the two are connected?
