CD30 - Buttons Suddenly Not Functioning??

I have been out in my car today and noticed that some of CD30 stereo buttons have stopped working properly. The display has stopped showing CD track information and just shows the avg mpg info at the moment even tho the cd is still playing. I can change to radio but the display doesn't show any radio station info i.e. i have no idea which station is playing. I have also noticed that the steering wheel functions on the right hand side no longer work (vol up/down & track change). I can also no longer reset the trip as the buttons dont seem to correspond to the display. The left hand side steering wheel function still seems to change the display to mpg, inst fuel consumption etc but I cannot reset anything.
Has anyone else had this and is there a fix?

Am I best taking it to a VX dealer to look at and if so is there usually a standard charge just for looking? Roughly how much?
Any help/advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Try taking the unit out and check its plugged in ok first.

I did take the unit out and there was 1 iso type plug in the back and 1 single black wire that could have been the arial wire? I didn't remove either of them, do you think it's worth it? Should there be any other wires in the back of the unit?

First thing to do is completely unplug the head-unit for half an hour or so.
Reconnect, and see if that has "refreshed" the head-unit electronics.
CD30 can be a bit niggly anyway - extreme units turn themselves back on etc.

If that don't work, the do the same with the display.

If this still doesn't sort it, then check fuses in the end of the dash..
Fuses 1, 12, 17 and 26.

now then if none of this sorts it, lets consider ............
If the radio is working, and the display is working,
but there is no communication between radio and display, then I would look at the two communication (Mid speed CAN) wires that link the two units
head-unit pin 9 (green) goes to display pin 20
Head unit pin 10 (white) goes to display pin 19

if needs be, try fitting temporary "jumper" wires to bridge these links.

If none of this sorts it, then you may need to replace one of the components, or geta matched pair from ebay etc...

Same happened to mine. I disconnected the car battery for 5 mins. All sorted :thumb;
