Default Just changed my glowplugs, what a nightmare !

As all of my glowplugs had failed, and i get the spanner light and rough running and smoke out the exhaust when i first start, I thought i would treat the car to some nice new shiney bosch glowplugs this morning.

I was expecting it to be a 10-15 minute job, but what a nightmare it was !!

Undid them all, and only 1 came out, they other 3 were squeaking so badly as i unscrewed them that my neighbours though i was torturing mice under the bonnet lol !, and then when they reached the end of the thread, they wouldnt pull out even a small amount, and only twisted with the socket on them, so i got some plusgas down the threads and into the glowplug hole, but this seemed to make them sieze up even worse, so i twisted them for ages with some long nose pliers and they moved about 2-3mm in total, so in the end, go the mole grips out and a tyre changing bar and clamped them on, then twisted them slightly whilst exerting pressure with the tyre bar and slowly and surely, 1 by 1, they came out !!

So what i was expecting to be a pleasant 15 minute job this morning, took me 3 hours.

At least the car starts instantly now with no spanner light and no smoke at all out the back and is running smoother than ever on cold starts now.

So thats 1 job done, 29 million to go till its all sorted !

Bit of a struggle then - at least you never broke one off - which engine are you talking about?

    Its the Z19DTH 150hp cdti 1.9

Yes, i was getting a little worried that one of the tips would snap, especially as the fourth one went very silent halfway through extraction, all the others squeaked like mad all the way out
