    confused oil change on insignia

hi just purchased an insignia and only done 9000mls but oil indicator saying its 26% is this correct for the mileage done ?
am i correct in assuming that service intervals 20,000 that would mean car has done 14,000 ?

The oil change is needs chainging depending on how you drive..

    Shorttrips/longtrips
    many starts/few starts ect.

but it wont flag up the sevice light until its less tha 2 or 3% oil life back.

its on Flexible service interval, IMO its better with flesible rather than fixed.. as you could over run your oil.

    This sounds correct
When new the oil can hold loads of contaminants
However as it gets older it becomes saturated, at this point the life deteriorates

Think of it like looking at a large sponge
You sprinkle a small amount of water on, and you don't see any difference
Pour a small amount of water on, and you see it absorb the water
Pour a lot of water on, and a small amount passes through
Pour a vast amount of water on, and a considerable amount passes through
The amount of water is not proportional visibly to what it can hold, eventually it becomes saturated

The service indicator on my car is quite similar
It is very accurate down to 15K miles, after that it accelerates towards the next service, clearly the oil is reaching the end of its life

If it was me id give it another Oil change or ask garage to do another one as you have reason to believe they never did a service !

I would stick to my guns and ask for them to redo Oil and filter and reset oil service PERIOD !

I wouldn't be happy getting them to reset oil life just on their saying they had done it without proof.
