Thank you!

Okay. So I am considering trying to replace the split CV joint gaiter myself rather than get a garage to do it. Am I mad? Probably. I'll get the part ordered and the job done in the coming few weeks, hopefully.
I have had a quick look and cannot see a How To for this job. Is there one? Do the 'shafts just pull out of the transmission or is there a circlip or some other retainer to release?
I'll try to get the pliers for the replacement clips for the new gaiter. I think I already have a 32mm socket for the driveshaft retaining nut inside the front hub. Better check.
I have a feeling I shall need to drop the transmission fluid that I just put in on Saturday out again.

Things to do:
(1) Rear tyres.
(2) Front suspension. This is rattling. It's either the strut top bearings or the lower track arm ball joints - I cannot tell from inside the car.
(3) Nearside CV joint gaiter.
(3.5) Four-wheel alignment on a Hunter machine or similar.
(4) Exhaust. The hanger just ahead of where the Y-piece lives (under the middle of the boot, roughly), has now broken off completely.
(5) Timing belt, water pump, spark plugs and another oil change.
These will get done in that sequence. Hopefully, the car should be like new - at least mechanically - after that lot!

Is it an inner or outer gaiter
Inner. They are now an MOT failure now too. Anyway, I want to replace it to avoid muck getting at the joint. And I don't like the idea of the split gaiter. I don't think it would last very well.
Paul
As its near side the easiest way to change it is to remove the outer cv joint from
The hub then remove the outer cv joint from the driveshaft
Remove the split gaitor , fit new gaitor by sliding it along the driveshaft then refit outer cv joint back to
The driveshaft and fit back
To
The hub
You get to change the outer boot as well so saves that from going in the near future and you don't loose the gearbox oil
That's very timely and useful advice right there! Thank you, Mark!
Will I need any special toold for the job? I think I need to buy myself a 32mm socket for the wheel hub nut but is there anything else? What about removing the outer CV joint? Will I need some kind of puller? I do own a slide hammer.

P.S. No emoticons? What gives?
On the exhaust front, I tried ringing three places. The first quoted me a ballpark figure for a cat-back system in stainless steel "about £620!" Once I had picked myself up off the floor, I said thank you but no thank you. The second place said they needed to see the car to be able to quote but a ballpark figure would be £420. Fair enough but I am not exactly local, so perhaps not.
Anyway, MIJ Performance came in with £455 all-in. And I know that many on here have had a satisfactory customer experience with them. And they appear to know Vectras, the club and forum quite well. So I think they will get my trade too.
The question now is should I go mid-sport or quiet. Dilemma! I love my cars and the V6 sounds lovely - when you can hear it! It would be nice to be able to hear it a bit more. However, a car that drones tediously on motorways would get tiresome quickly.
Any opinions or better still experience on here? Care to share your thoughts?

hi mate nice these gsi's they sound lovely with a nice system on. they pull so much better at the top end and a real head turner of a noise. goodluck with your beast
I've just had the rear section changed for £280 (twin exit), not sure how much more there is to the cat tho.
