It's been about 1,000 miles since the collision already. The car is coming along. She's had a replacement front driver's side wing, a driver's side door mirror, both in the correct black sapphire colour. The adaptive headlamps (AFLs) have been replaced too with black SRi-spec units and I am really happy with them. They look great and perform very well. So her appearance has improved considerably.

The engine idling issue persists. It is irritating, rather than annoying. The car can still be driven but needs to be nursed when stationary. I have a few more ideas about what the fault could be.

I have a new exhaust front section - down pipes, flexible couplings and centre catalytic converter - on its way from Autovaux. I ordered an apparently new genuine Vauxhall bumper from eBay too. It is in primer, so will have to wait for paint until I get the car resprayed. I am after a black sapphire pre-facelift bonnet.

Apart from the idling issue, the car drives very nicely indeed. She pulls strongly and smoothly at all engine speeds and is as quick as ever.

I have driven something like 670 miles this weekend. I've been up to Grimsby and back. Down to Harrow, Middlesex. Then over to Aveley, Essex today for more work on the car.

The exhaust's front section has been replaced with a new, non-genuine piece, including the catalytic converter. I had thought that one of thecflexible couplings had failed and was allowing air into the exhaust, upsetting the lambda sensors and the fuelling and causing the misfire at idle. The car is quieter with the new exhaust section, suggesting that it needed to be replaced. However, she still doesn't idle smoothly. The next thing to try will be a compression test. The original engine may get swapped, which to me would be a pity. But if it is needed, we'll do it. I don't want to replace the car.

On the plus side, the idling is slightly better. The EML still comes on but less readily. I can live with it for now. And the car drives beautifully, apart from the idle issue.

I can only advise you to have the car read... it could be that the o2 sensors need replacing or cleaning.. something i always do if i remove the exhaust or have a section replaced... because of the better air flow in the newer sections the sensors might act-up if left with the same amount of dirt when you had the old exhaust bits on...

Yeah. We read the codes and watched the sensors in real-time. The 1-3-5 bank is trying to correct a non-existent fuelling problem. That's why I thought exhaust leak. The car is better now but still not right. Compression test soon.

We swapped lambas a few weeks ago. No improvement. I agree that they maybe need a clean.
