gsi-robster, no sweat! Do you have a car diary for yours?
Paul
dont know exactly what you mean like do i keep a project diary of work done
but has a folder full of reciepts for good parts / audio / service and some other manual in the folder
and full service history from main dealer along with doing the timing belt and water pump 8k miles ago.
ive replaced the csc due to losing clutch pressure and its been sound.
just need to order a car pass and extra key lol
oh and a drivers seat adjusting cable - ive done a temp repair with a shoelace
Lovely car GSiFan
looking good Paul, hopefully see you at the Luton heritage Meet.
Steven
yep its a top motor the gsi mate,i nearly bought a red one last year but plumped for my v6 turbo elite instead
hope you can make it to the Heritage meet Paul ...its been a while ...
So this weekend...
Transmission oil... done. Once I found the drain plug , it was straightforward enough. My transmission did not have oil seals, washers or anything under any of the drain, level sighting or reverse light switch. Just so you know. F35 transmission, I think. Anyway, there is Fuchs synthetic 75W/80 (or is in 90) in there now. You should have seen the state of the crap that came out of there! I'll do this more often, I think.
Engine oil and filter... done. Easy peasy, although I had got the engine nice and toasty running the Wynn's engine flush through. This could have meant scalding, so I used some suede work gloves. Mobil synthetic 5W/40 in there now.
Uprated front anti-roll bar drop links... done. Not difficult. Done them before. Meyle ones fitted this time, though. Hopefully, they'll last longer than just over a year.
Rear upper control ("banana") arms... done. A pain in the 'arris getting access to the inboard mounting bolt. I still haven't found a good way of getting access to the wretched thing. If anyone on here has any tips on this, I'm all ears. I've kept the old ones for possible re-bushing with urethane bushes in the future.
Engine air and cabin filters... done. Also easy peasy.
I was going to replace the petrol filter too but got sick of grovelling about under the car. Anyway, the so-called "quick release" clips were beyond me. Having looked around on here, it seems I am not alone. I might replace the stupid things with proper, old-school fuel pipe clips. I have some in the garage already.
Bad stuff - the rear tyres are near the bone. I'll fit some new ones as soon as I can. And the nearside driveshaft gaiter is split and will need repairing before long, or else the CV joint will be at risk. It never ends!
Still to be done: timing belt kit, water pump, thermostat, spark plugs. Perhaps brake discs and pads.
Photos...
Crappy, knackered drop links
Shiny new ones! (Ignore the scuffed alloys, please.)
Side-by-side comparison, old versus new. Look how much larger the balljoints in the ends are. I'll report back on my impressions of them over time.
I am off to nurse my aches and pains now. Eleven hours yesterday and about two hours today have taken their toll. But it will be worth it when I come to drive the car!
Paul
