Default M6 Toll road - rip off or good value?

Just drove up to Ellesmere Port to see our UK head office and went up the M6 toll road as usual.

I was appalled to see that this bunch of sharks are raising the toll YET AGAIN from £3.50 to £4.00 from 1st January.

When it opened it was a more reasonable £2.50, I think.

I did a bit of research and apparently some highly paid government lawyer forgot to insert a clause in the road contract that actually limited the prices in any way, so they are free to charge what they like.

Although I just book the fee to expenses anyway, I think that this is an outrageous level of charging (only 18 Eur to get all the way to Paris on really superior roads) but at least it avoids the Birmingham car park I suppose.

Bearing in mind that thanks to good old Uncle (Cur) Rod and Auntie Brown we are going to see a big increase in tolls, what does everyone else think of this - just try and keep it a bit polite.

Poor private motorists and HGV companies taxed yet again, on top of fuel surcharges

I refuse to use it out of principle ... I already pay my road tax ... why should I have to pay again! I was conned into using it once ... the junction wasn't clearly marked it was M6 toll and was too new for my sat nav at the time

I must admit it seems to make the M6 a bit lighter through Brum though

i gladly pay the toll as its a cracking peice of racetrack sorry motorway and the time it saves is well worth it, any time i used to travel through birmingham before it was opened was a nightmare standstill so in short i love it but agree the price has shot up

Not too keen on the idea of having to pay for it, but 'tis a cracking bit of road for meandering along in a leisurely and law-abiding manner!

    Default cracking bit of road

I use the toll road 3 or 4 times a year and have always been happy paying it.
This latest price rise may just force me back on to the cheap option out of principal.
