If he has a normal license like me and you both trailer and the car can not exceed 3.5 tonne you have to add both the max weights up if it's over 3.5 then no he carnt think he will blow his car up aswell
Cheers Paul nu I was right lol
What does a vectra weigh
I think he is talking out his rear end mate. Look up the dvla site you will get the info you need there.
3.2 v6 Signum and loving it 😁
Er not sure fella would think near 2 tonne I would think
Vectra is 1400 last time I remember ya can't tow anything that weighs more than a car he would need a landrover ect which means he needs to upgrade his licence correct me if am wrong
It really is a massive grey area where the law and vosa are concerned , alot of them don't know the rules themselves .
All I can say for definate is if it's over 750 kg it needs brakes on the trailer , and the towing weight rating will be on the tow vehicle .
Also you need the relevant category on your licence .
I've just been through the in's and out's of this as I needed a new work van / truck that I could tow cars with.
I ended up with this little beauty
Personally I wouldnt try and tow anything over 90% of the Kerb weight of your car. The recommended tow weight may even be less then 90%.
You can generally tow with anything, but it is how safe the outfit is.
Snaking generally occurs because the towed vehicle is trying to push the towing vehicle forward, notably happens whilst going downhill or trying to slow down.
As per previous post, max weight un-braked is 750kg including the trailer.
We tow a caravan, you need to be very careful, as said look on dvla or vosa websites as can change on date you go your licence.
Load the trailer/caravan correctly, make sure the nose weight isnt over your limit.
Where to start
Anyone who passed their test after 1997 can tow a trailer up to 750kg with ANY vehicle up to 3500kg (that means the total train weight is 4250kg)
The exceptions are
You can have any mixture of a vehicle/trailer outfit so long as...
The example I can give you is an all too real one
- The trailers laden weight does not exceed that of the unladen weight of the tow car
- The trailer does not weigh any more than the towing limit of the vehicle (that one is kinda obvious)
- The total train weight doesn't exceed 3500kg (this is the weight of the laden trailer plus the fully laden vehicle, it doesn't matter if the car or trailer are not at their max weights. It goes by the plated weights
I have a swift corniche caravan and it's total laden weight is 1250kg
My Vectra 1.9 CDTI SRi weighs 1456kg unladen
Meaning I am well under
The car's towing weight is 1600kg
Again well under
The laden car weighs 2005kg so 2005kg+1250kg=3255kg......and again well under
