    Default Astra-G 1.7 CDTI 2005 - MORE ADVICE PLEASE!

    Chaps,

Im going to look at another car shortly, its an 05-reg Astra-G 1.7 CDTI. Its done over 100k but FSH and Cambelt has been changed a few months ago.

What kind of things do I need to look out for on this? Do these suffer from the dreaded DMF and/or Inlet Manifold/EGR problem?

Let me know your thoughts please.

    Thanks, G

    Vehicle : Vectra SRi

    Trim : XP1

    Engine : 1.9 CDTi 150

    Year : 2007

    Mileage : 66000

Check the cooling system - check that the expansion tank is perfectly clean and the water within has no traces of oil in it... check it again after a spirited test drive; they have a tendency for the oil coolers to fail which lets oil into the cooling system which is left unchecked can lead to many other issues.

They can suffer from flywheel issues, so check for the usual noises etc.

They can be quite prone to excessive injector leak, pop off the engine cover (like you do on a CDTi 150) and have a look.

They are the main things for me having looked at a few and have the experience of a friends for a few years. Other than these is the usual checks etc.

That year mileage I expect it to be quite a decent price, about £2.5K ish? There are a few about if this turns out to be a dodgy one.

    cheers for the info Dan.

I went to see the car, its nice.

Things I dont like - THE SELLER. Apparently he is a trader "from home" and has had the car 3 weeks.

Some things im not happy about:
    - The drivers door should have a sport badge in it, but instead has a shadow of the "LS" lettering;
    - Little cubby hole under headlight switch has various interior screws and clips in it, when questioned as to why these are here, was told that the cubby hole had to be replaced, so I said did the replacement come with the spare screws, he said yes, I asked why they hadnt fallen out in transit and he no they didnt!!
    - The rear seat base is lose, I asked why this was and he said the car had been valeted, I have had cars valeted before and never have they taken my back seat out!!

Its just the seller, he has got 5 Astra G's for sale and a Zafira!!

Car is cheap, 115k with FSH up to 98k and belt change at that time too, old MOT's, previous lady owner since 2008, HPI clear. I could get it for £1600........its just the seller doesnt fill me with confidence!!

OH, and did Vauxhall change the style of the locks/blade on the LATE LATE Astra G's, the 52/03-reg Astra;s from experience have the key with both sides shaped, this has a key blade like a vectra (Z style) !!!??!!!

Sadly for me its all about costs at the mo.

The Astra would be £100 tax per annum, should hypothetically be very economical, but if im down on power, id probably chip it!

The early 1.7 CDTI engines are a bit noisy, but its normal, they are pretty bulletproof though. 60mpg is achievable as well.
