Was doing my normal 2 and a bit mile commute to work his morning and noticed my temp gauge didn't move in the slightest. Normally it gets up to around 85-87c. Outside temp was 6c
Do you think it's a sign of things to come???

Only 2 miles, car isnt likely to get warm in that time.
Normally gets up to around 85c though??
sounds like the very common thermostat
Take it for a longer run and if heats up round town, take it on fast roads and if it cools again, it'll be your thermostat. Easy fix though.
Outside temp was 6c the colder it is outside the more it takes to warm up
ive got the 1.8 my thermostat broke around 53000 miles
i got it fixed now and
mine takes 3 miles to get to 86-88 and stays there
but if you put your heater on it moves down around 85
whats your mileage on?
was your heater on?

Yes heater was on an fan on speed 2.
My car has done 63k, whether I'm stuck in traffic or on the motorway the gauge won't budge from 92c no matter what. My in laws have the same vec as me (just 2yrs older) and theirs went at 73k a few weeks ago. Garage said he needed to replace water pump at same time?!
Usually takes about 3-4 miles or 5-7 minutes to get up to 85C. Having the heater fan on will cause it to take longer to heat up, as it's dumping heat into the interior of the car rather than keeping it in the engine.
Normal operating temperature is 85C-95C. If you're in free flowing traffic, around 87C is generally the normal temperature, regardless of outside air temperature.
So when the gauge us consistently showing just over half way there is nothing to worry about?
Hello from another Derby member.
Yep the gauge won't show until you've done around 4-5 miles this weather. My commute is around 4 miles and it's just on the move before I hit work.
Changed the stat last year, so before that it hardly moved after 10 miles.
It sits at around halfway so around 85-87 and stays there unless caught in traffic or as in last week touring, up and down a bit as I was in the Lake District. I was taking the car to places even where mountain goats fear to tread.
