Default spanner and car light on

First problem with the Gsi yesterday. The spanner and car light came on when I turned on the ignition. It does go off when engine is running. There are no symptoms when driving at all. anything to worry about?

As above. The ECU has stored a fault code.

What you have is a non present fault which may have just been a glitch & has now gone away... As long as it goes out once the engine has fired it's nothing to worry about & should clear itself after around 25 non fault starts.

If it comes on while driving, then get the codes read!

Depends on whether fixed term servicing or eco sevice flex intervals.

The former is indicated by the word InSP in the odometer display temporarily when you first turn the ignition key, the latter is the oilcan and spanner symbol in the rev counter display.

CHeers guys. I'll get my mate to use his new snap on ethos to read the code.

Code came up as p1614 which shows a fault with the immobiliser. All I can think is that I was playing around with my new flip key and must have pressed it too many times too quickly as there is no faults with the system.
Code is now clear Fingers crossed it dont flag up again as there is talk on the net that it could be a module that is breaking down although that flags up another code too
Anyway, the Snapon Ethos is a cracking piece of kit, you can monitor most things whilst the car is running with it so im going to do a bit of research on figures and outputs and and check they are all up to scratch on my GSI

    Hi
mine shows the same, spanner and car light on turning ignition on...goes out when engine starts and runs spot on...it's a 1.9 150 BTW
I've just enabled the 'taxi' locking/unlocking ...would this make the light appear ???
My mechanic says it's not a problem if it goes out when started
    Cheers all
