Default EGR Valve question about cleaning

    Hi
just followed the how to and cleaned my EGR. I have seperated the two parts. The part that sits on the manifold - this has a plunger in the centre with a spring.

When I press this spring it seems quite stiff and the only way to get it to close is with a flat blade screwdriver flicking the bolt back up from the manifold side inlet.

My question is - does this sound right or should it drop back straight away as it has a hefty spring on it?

The little plunger on the other part of the egr valve moves freeley so I can't see how this spring valve on the other piece closes?

Any help please before I have to go and buy a new egr valve.

    Thanks

it shouldnt be stiff but i always recommend fitting new ones anyway , unless its just preventative maintainance of course
