Default seized rear calliper bleed nipple

Having replaced brake pads & discs all round and the brake pipes I come to what is the easiest part of the job - add brake fluid and bleed out the air.

How wrong I am! The nipple on the rear calliper is completely seized and was still the same after soaking it with release fluid overnight. Tried to free it with a metal punch and a hammer but all I have succeeded in doing is chipping off some metal.

Can I drill it out or what?

Please please don't tell me that I have to take the calliper off again!

    Thanks,
    Dave

Hi, have you rounded it off - if not get a tight fitting socket or ring spanner on it and very gently try and tap it undone - you could also try heating the alloy body of the caliper but obviously not that hot it would damage the rubber seals inside the caliper. If it is rounded off you could try a good pair of grips or as a last resort drill it and use a stud exractor to undo it - the main thing is not to damage the threads in the main body of the caliper - good luck with it

Tried it without success. There is now very little of the nut left!!!!
I'm absolutely fed up and starting to think that this is just the start and that the other 3 will be the same!

Would you believe it, the other rear calliper bleed nipple is also seized!

I've never yet attempted to free a bolt with heat but will give it a go. I suppose the idea is that the very slight movement produced by the expansion frees up the joint. Presumably I wait till it fully cools and contracts before attempting to turn the nipple?
As I'm reluctant to apply heat to the alloy body of the calliper; would it work if I heated the bleed nipple itself?
    Thanks Dave

Try to remove when hot, as said do not make too hot in case of damage to seals. You will not be able to heat just the nipple because of heat transfer, but concentrate the tip of the flame on the nipple.

Thank you John, I'm in Lenzie, Kirkintilloch.

If they are not slackening with the nut I doubt very much if they will move with an extractor. Has anyone experienced otherwise?

Let me remove the 2nd calliper and try the heat treatment and see what happens.

    Thanks again for the offer.

    Dave
