Hiring a £6,000 prime lens GULP!

We've all seen thos big impressive lenses at sporting events and though 'how much is one of those?'. Well i'm hiring one for 4 days in July to shoot low-flying aircraft at the Mach Loop in North wales. My standard lenses just wouldnt be up to the job so looked into hiring one that was. Ended up with an Olympus f300 f2.8 (eqiv to 600mm 35mm) worth £6,000. I know they get more expensive than that but its worth 3x more than my veccy! Scared about dropping it down the welsh mountain.

Has anyone here done the Mach Loop and been to cad west?

Nice lens. I went to a wildlife park at the weekend. There were people there with very similar lenses. I'm walking around with a £300 DSLR set up, taking pictures like this.... www.flickr.com/chriswilkinsonphotography and wondering how to possibly warrant buying such a unit.

Searching for Cad West brings some great youtube videos.

Is there a list when they will be flying or is it pot luck.

It's pot luck! we may not see a thing but they generally fly between 9am and 5pm mon to Friday. Google MJ Aviation for some great Mach loop photos. In YouTube put typhoon Mach west. The typhoons make the best noise ever. Sounds like airwolf approaching and thunder leaving!!

Brilliant hah hah!!!!

They do get American F15s through the loop and we know how happy they are to open fire!!
