    Default LPG conversion?

After a quick search cant find much info about my query...

After a change in job it means im gonna be driving the gsi every day instead of just now and again.
Looked at swapping it in for a derv but really like the spec and the car as a whole so thought id look into the LPG route!
Has anyone LPG'd a gsi before?
What were the results...Was it worth it?

    Cheers andy

    Well thats the thing.
Id lose 1000ish on mine as no one wants gsi's atm plus then id have to buy a new car with a normal interior(although i would like a sunroof..lol) also with god knows what wrong with. At least with mine i kinda know the problems plus as i said i really like the whole package it gives..(except the soon to be high running cost)
Did think of a second small car but thats just not worth it with the price of everything going up atm.

It needs servicing and most garages don't do a great deal of servicing lpg so you may have to go to a specialist.

The filter is the key points and the tar needs draining off when hot.

I looked into this in detail a while ago for my wifes VXR Astra. The company I was told to go with Prims and the brown injectors as this is the highest perfromance set you can get.

There injectors would deliver 60bhp per cilindar so almost teh same as th VXR 2ltd turbo engine meaning it would risk running lean at the top end.

Not sure how that would translate to the GSI with the bigger lump...

On the downside is the price... lower power systems will cost arround £1.5k and it is a case you get what you pay for here... The Prims Brown injector set (with 4 injectors) would be £2.5k to buy...

Give them a call and have a chat with the tech team to see what he work, servicing and cost would be...

Used to have an omega 2.2 auto fitted with a prinz system if I remember right. It was like that when I bought it. If you do 20-25k a year you should recover the cost in about 18 months. It did not appear to loose in performance and I loved it. However not many places service LPG systems, ordinary garages will do general srevice but you need to take it to an approved LPG installer to have it serviced.

The Z18XE engine was designed for LPG from the start, which is why the Dual Duel Vectras, Astras, Zafiras etc use it. Manufacturer fitted LPG like my 2004 1.8 Dual Fuel Elegance gets you reduced road tax (£155) and exemption from London Congestion Charge too.

Should cost you about £800-£1000 to get it converted, and with LPG currently 70p a litre and petrol 140p a litre, you'll have paid for the conversion after about 13,000 miles, ie a year for most people. From then on you're paying the same as a petrol getting about 80mpg. Plus you can run on petrol if you want, so your range is now about 900 miles.

look out for member rich r

    Cheers for all the replies.
I know it will cost about 1...2k to get done so thats no shock it was the runining side of things i was concerned about.
we have about 4 places near us that sell it which is good as well.
Thing being its either this or sell the car which i think id be worse of doing.

Think of how much petrol you could get for £1k - £2k though...
