    Default Going DVLA tomorrow

    bought a private plate off ebay that is on retenton till october 2013 and i guess i gotta go my local DVLA office for them to sort things im just wondering does anyone know what paperwork is needed to take?

    Below is a link to the DVLA pages about changing to a private plate. I did mine in Feb and it was pretty straightforward.

    Took along the needed docs, MOT, certificate of ownership of the new number etc (can't remember the full list, check the DVLA page ). Handed them over to the nice woman behind the counter who disappeared for about 15 mins then came back with a new MOT with the new reg, told me the V5 document would be posted to me and that I could fit the new plates as soon as I got home. She also gave me a document confirming the transfer of regestration.

    Depends on how much you have done before you go. I already had the new plates made up for instance. Also there may be a transfer fee, mine was purchased through the DVLA website so all fees were included.

    thank you very much mate, i have had my plates made up already, i have a problem where i read the dvla type of pages but take nothing in so need it spelling out for me lol

    i took my new plates with me to the dvla centre and once sorted changed them in the car park

    just rang them and some fella said just bring the certificate and logbook and tax disc and it might be free

    your initial use of the plate , ie fitting it to the car after purchase is all in the price if you pruchased off the dvla website ?
