Default It's looking like my car's got to go.

Rather cheesed off about my car at the moment, the bonnet is desperate for a respray and a spring has snapped, they are the least of my worries though. My Auto gearbox is playing up it'll go into reverse perfectly to get out of the garage, but when I select Drive it waits 2 or 3 seconds then jolts into gear. It seems fine once it's warmed up, no problem selecting Drive, but I've read a few threads on here and it seems it's only going to get worse. So I'm thinking of putting it back to standard and getting rid, rather than spending a daft amount of money sorting the gearbox. Gutted tbh, loved the car since I've had it, and would have kept it for a few years longer. Not sure what to replace it with though, totally lost interest in cars this last few weeks, hence not being on here much.

hi buddy. its going to be a daft question but can you/have you check/ed the oil level in the box that sounds like when older gearboxes used to hesitate when low on oil but i dont know whether newer boxes suffer from this. HTH

Not sure how to check it mate, my backs fubarred so I can't do much on the car myself. I was going to ask a mechanic to flush it and put new fluid in, but after reading a thread with exactly the same symptoms as mine I lost interest as it was around 2k to fix it.

They normally only die if the oil is contaminated so new fluid can't do any harm. If it doesn't fix it then maybe its time to shift it on.

    Hi Col,

    Long time no speak mate,

Don't give up on the gearbox, I suspect the fluid needs a flush and new filter as the thickness of the fluid in the valve casing until it warms and thins is exactly what I read from your descriptions, used to be rife in the BMW 7 series boxes.

Thanks guys, I'll give my tame mechanic a bell and see if a flush and new fluid sorts it, I'd rather keep the car, just a bit cheesed off with it at the moment and lacking enthusiasm.

Defo oil flush and fill mate.. the auto boxes have to be trained and filled approx three times too I believe as the oil stays in the torque converter..

Made all the difference on my father-in-laws auto box (not VX but same technology) ...

Try the oil change as others have said mine got changed for the same symptoms however there can be a number of causes for the same symptoms, mine was terminal doesn't mean they all are
