You can put down whatever value you like.
End of the day all they'll pay out is market value - unless it's a classic vehicle and you've had it valued beforehand.

Its a bit annoying that they ask you for the vehicle value. I had a discussion when I was renewing the insurance on my old Pug a few years ago. When asked its value I said £2K, the agent said no its not, its a 10 year old car. I replied it is worth £2K, becuase if I trade it in against a new car, thats the amount I would be getting for it as the Government Scheme was still going.

Value is what someone is really willing to pay for an item and its very personal. As much as I would love a new car sometime in my life, it is not worth the £20K+ I would have to pay for one.

Insurance needs to be investigated, because it's law to have they constantly have your pants down...

My mates has just gone up because a drunk driver hit her parked car, it goes down as involved in an accident but not your fault, extra £100 on her renewal...

PPI claims are cropping up everywhere, but only idiots took it out if they didn't need it, insurance effects everyone!!

Insurance companies put up premiums even on none fault accidents as 'research' shows that you are more likely to be in another accident in the next 12 months! The research was probably two insurance underwriters sat having a beer and a sandwich!
Its like the olden days really, highway robbers gave the same choices then, your money or your life.
Now days we get the choice of your money or your license and car!
The government won't do anything to kerb insurers, it's not in their interests, the more your insurance premium is, the more the tax man gets from it.
