Default Atomatic rain sensor how does it work

Hi guys got my Signum today and what superb drive(2.2DTI) all the way back from collecting in Hereford to Telford. Worked how everything works out without too much fuss and quite straight forward.

However when it came to the Atomatic Rain Senor wiper functions,it is rather confusing to use,the manual does not say other than pushing the stick up and down.

According to the maual it says "push the stick up 1 notch and it will set it to Altomatic Rain Sensor wiper system, but the back wipers come on also is this correct? Any help would be grateful guys other than that everything seems to work fine.

One other question I would like to ask as it is my 1st time driving a Diesel, do I have to let the engine run for 30 seconds before I drive off so that the Turbo is warmed up and when I Stop to allow the Turbo to cool down (30 seconds also before switch off engine). Thanks Guys.

    Regards Jon

As far as i'm aware the back wiper is not linked with rain sensor, it should be controlled just by pushing the stalk away from you

My rear wiper also activates but you don't have to keep it on just push the stalk away and it will deactivate it, guess they think if you want the front ones on the rears might as well happen as well.
With the turbo just don't hammer the car until it is up to temperature and you will be fine, and as for when you stop just don't rev the engine before you switch off and again you will be fine.

    I have auto wipers.
The auto rain sensor detects water on the front screen just behind the mirror.
The 4 position adjustor on the wiper stalk adjusts the sensitivity of the auto wiper sensor.
The rear wiper is push the wiper stalk away to start and again to stop.
The rear wiper will come on IF the front wipers are on and you put the car in reverse.
I've not seen/noticed the rear wiper coming on when the front wipers are set to auto, but I will check again.

push the stalk forward to engage the rear wiper. Push it again to deactivate (you should hear a click).
If your front wipers are on and you engage reverse, the rear should wipe.

Best thing I ever did with my automatic rain sensor was disconnect it, it was utterly useless. The wipers just then fall back to working on intermittant mode and actually do what you expect them to!

    Test results.

With front wipers set to auto and water applied to the sensor just the front wipers work.

With front wipers set to auto and the rear wipers on, the rear wipers only work on the timer, even when water is applied to the sensor.

Doing the above test standing by the open drivers door gets both you and the inside of the drivers door wet.

Yes - up one click, then use the adjuster on the top of the stalk to adjust sensitivity
