Default Had to take action, this is ridiculous

I have been arguing with my "Health and Safety Officer" (who also holds another post within my company) about some ridiculous memoranda he has been issuing for about six months now

However last weeks was the final straw
"Please note that with effect from Monday 16 April 2012 we will be fitting warning notices to vehicles, in order to assist persons near, on, or using the vehicle"
This part I do not have issue with, as sometimes such notices are mandatory
So I arrived at work on Monday to find him starting on our company owned vehicles (taking each of them out of service for about 1 hour, which had already been approved)
There were warning stickers ALL over it, and these are just some of them :
On the bonnet - "Caution keep clear" and "Caution keep hands clear"
Above the door handles - "Caution keep hands clear"
Next to the door and pillar (opening side) - "Caution keep clear"
Underside of boot - "Caution bump risk - wear hard hat"
Above any visible exhaust pipe - "Caution hot" - and when I saw this one I lost the plot...

I then asked him to demonstrate where he would apply these on my car, using blutak on the back of the stickers
    I counted 36 in total!
I then asked another employee to come out and have a look
He walked around my car, even looked inside to see stickers inside the car, then looked at me, and the expression said it all

So if anyone is looking for a Health & Safety job, we now have a vacancy, as this person failed to turn up for their disciplinary today...

    It's gone mad.
I deliver vending machines to lots of sites and Health and Safety is a big issue.
recently did a delivery to a new Tesco store that was still a building site, needed a Risk Asessment and mission statement just to get in.
We then had to sit through an induction of 30 mins before being allowed on site!
    Delivery itself took 3 mins!!

At my old old place of work the "manager" was insane with stickers, EVERYTHING and i mean everything was stickered. In the end i actually left the job due to his ways!

He even stickered up our Saftey harness's for working at hights and the Step numbers on the ladders that were 30m into the air on the highbay cranes!

I'll do the H&S job!... I'd remove all the stickers throughout the company cars, premises etc.. and replace them with one big sticker on the front door to the building

I've got a contract with Tesco, looks like someone has made an error there although it is fairly unique as this would be classified as a building site
I too had to go through the site controllers induction, and this was just to have a look at the store!
Now that I have it on record I attended this induction I don't need to attend any others at any other stores, it is up to them to chase it up which they did on the next visit (would have been quicker taking the induction though)

I am a health and saftey rep at work, I use a bit of common sence in what I do. But do have my workers saftey fully at heart. Some times some common sence is needed.

Last year I worked alongside the H&S department and the complaints they got were awful. The company had hazard reports to fill in and then send it to H&S who would then send them to Engineering to fix. One was "stone on pathway - trip hazard" But 3 days later when the Engineer got it and went up to have a look the offending stone must have been kicked aside. Why write a complaint about a stone rather than just kick it off the path and carry on? One of my favourites was "when i pulled the towel in the bathroom, the cover came down and hit me on the nose"... Fair enough it hadnt been locked in properly... But I wouldnt want to have my name on that one! Although obviously all the reports were treated in strictest confidence.

Try working in a place where every notice is in English, Polish and Lithuanian from where you walk in stating no chewing gum on site to the ****ter about the correct proceedure on how to wash your hands.

I'm NEBOSH certified H&S and I did the job for 6 months after training.

I went back into engineering simply because H&S does not use common sense in most cases and I was so frustrated it confused me how people could not think a logical way of making something safe

I was working in Trinidad and the guys had to wear safety specs on the back of the boat. They also had to wear them inside the AC container.

As soon as they came out they fogged up. I said to the H&S rep that they should leave them outside the container so they maintain the same temp and no fogging would occurr. Afterall they don't need safety specs in front of a pc!

He said no they were his rules and we will obey them.

Two days later a lad came out glasses fogged up slipped over a cable cover landed on his arm and broke it. We had to stop seismic surveying to travel for 36hours back to shore. When we sailed out the H&S guy had gone!
