Default Clunking when changing gear - Problem found

    Hi all,

I have a clunking sound when changing gear (even with engine off and just moving gear stick). I have found the cause - a loose fitting, but the fitting just seems to be worn and i can't tighten anything up. i have attached a few pictures of the part; it's the round PVC linkage thats got lots of slack in it!

My question is, what's it called and does anyone know how much it is to replace (or have replaced)? It looks like the whole piece will need replacing, not just the link, as the bush is not removable :-(

    Any ideas?

    Cheers, Steve.

Look like the selector cables for the gearstick/box.

Yes, it is the selector cable from the gear stick.

Yep, thats what happens to mine. The problem is that the pin that goes through the linkage is not removable, otherwise i would just stick a long M8 bolt though the lot. If it gets too bad (falls off completely) i may try to snap the pin out and put a bolt through the hole left. As otherwise it looks like a job to replace the lot..

Seems like an awful lot of hassle. I might spend a bit of time next week having a look at it, see if I can think up a fix

Could you not wrap some tape around the pin it fits over so it makes the pin 'bigger'
